Exposure: Part shade - Full Sun
Soil: Medium-Wet
Mature Height: 15-20 feet
Mature Width: 10-15 feet

Notable Features: Fabulous full color, beautiful white flowers in May, birds love berries. Because of its attractive flowers, fruit, and autumn foliage, Nannyberry is often cultivated as an ornamental shrub or small tree. Fun fact: Apparently the name Nannyberry comes from the blossoms smelling like a wet goat. Personally, none of us at TLC have really smelled that lovely aroma from Nannyberry blossoms, but we kind of want to the next time they're blooming. So include it in your next hedgerow!

Attracts: The nectar and pollen of the flowers attract honeybees, Andrenid bees, Halictid bees (Sphecodes spp. & others), Syrphid flies, dance flies (Empididae), Muscid flies, and miscellaneous beetles. The fruits of Nannyberry are eaten by many birds. Birds that use Viburnum spp. as sites for their nests include the White-eyed Vireo, Indigo Bunting, Prairie Warbler, and Catbird.
