Notable Features: This is a hardy workhorse plant. It has beautiful white blooms in late spring, and will quickly spread. And when we say spread, we really mean it. This plant can be very aggressive, so will reseed AND spread by rhizomes, but this can be advantageous in the right scenario. Have a medium-wet spot that you just really don’t want to deal with anymore and need an aggressive native to help outcompete some undesirable plants? Put this beauty in. But plan wisely when planting Canada Anemone, as it will overwhelm smaller species. Not for small garden spaces, unless you’re happy with a solid groundcover of Canada Anemone in that area. Will flourish in normal garden soil and wonderful for streambanks. Deer and rabbits usually avoid it.
Attracts: Floral visitors include small bees (Andrenid, Halictid) that collect pollen and Syrphid flies that feed on pollen. The larvae of a fly, Dasineura anemone, form bud galls on Canada Anemone.
