Artist Statement: Each work represents at least one organism I tie closely to my identity. I want to honor a part of my Mexican heritage through species known for migrating between Illinois and Mexico while incorporating them into Mexican styles. I am fortunate enough to observe these species throughout McHenry County, especially as they make their annual departures and arrivals. I hope that upon looking at these works, viewers will develop a clearer idea that the species we conserve can be direct reflections of ourselves and our cultures and vice versa.
