Artist Statement: Throughout the summer huge moths rest near our back door. Our leaving the house disturbs them - sending them frantically afloat. They are beautiful and dark. Other more curious moths tap at our window screens nightly, desperate for the glow of the TV. Most people remark on the loveliness of butterflies, but I am curious and attracted to moths. They are beautiful, papery, fragile, light seeking, sensitive to their environment, and self-protecting.
This year, I’ve been sewing moths - devoting myself to learning more about them. For me, they represent our soul’s desire for illumination and higher consciousness, fragility and beauty, and sensitivity and intuition.
