Artist Statement: William (Billy) Bishop received his degree in Illustration and Design from Milton College in 1975 and worked the next 40 years doing work as a product / packaging designer, illustrator, and graphics tech in the newspaper/magazine field, all the while showing his paintings in galleries and art shows, throughout the Midwest. Now retired he paints full time and has found success in the past years thanks to the internet showing and selling his work nationally.
His style in the early years was strictly realism. In the past decade his style loosened to use a fair amount of abstract mixed with the realism of subjects laid into the canvas with a dreamlike pensive detail. This style is even carried over to many of his charcoal and graphite drawings. The most popular of subjects in his works has turned out to be ravens and crows. Nearly 100 of those pieces have sold nationwide. Born in Ohio, raised in Illinois, he now lives in Williams Bay, Wisconsin.
