Description: Attractive seedheads make longhair sedge (aka bristly sedge) a lovely addition to rain gardens, shorelines, water gardens and any reliably moist soil. The lime green “bristles” of the seeds resemble a bottlebrush. Very adaptable, it grows in any damp soil, in sun to moderate shade. Every moist garden or restoration should include sedges, as their fibrous root structure keeps the soil in place! They also help act as a fuel source if one chooses to use prescribed burning as a management tool.
