Artist Statement: I have always been a bit off the beam and enjoyed the ride. As a child, it was normal to weld together whatever I found in my dad’s junk yard. If I wanted to create something, the raw materials were within reach. All I had to do was imagine it. I loved to spend my days making things. One day, in my teens, I entered a local art competition with my found, junkyard art. I won first prize (a blue ribbon & $1.50 prize money). That was the start. I went on to achieve my degree in Art at ISU. When my dad passed, I moved back to the village of my youth to watch out for Mom. There, I found a small, abandoned building and turned it into a music and art studio. I spent my days creating. Living near the woods, I began to carve and never stopped. Next thing I know, I’m in art shows, and getting some serious prize money. I’ve received recognition from Chicago Tribune, Sun times, WTTW and WGN. My studio and business are now in Harvard, IL. I still create. I try to capture the absurdness and humor in our world.
