Artist Statement: My ceramic work is an exploration of the diverse, interconnected stories of our local landscape, rooted in the earth both physically and creatively. Because the natural world is simultaneously whimsical, ancient, structured, and unpredictable, I express its multi faceted spirit through varied ceramic styles.
In this collection, you will find playful, narrative driven sculptures that celebrate the unseen, magical folklore of the forest floor. Alongside them are hand built and wheel thrown vessels that echo the land’s raw textures and natural phenomena, from the unpredictable, fire and shadow markings of natural reduction and atmospheric firing to the intricate, ancient geometry found in growth patterns.
By utilizing different construction and glazing techniques, I aim to honor the many ways the earth speaks to us. Whether captured in a whimsical creature or the quiet grace of a textured vase, each piece is formed from the soil beneath our feet and fired to reflect the vibrant, enduring beauty of the McHenry County landscape and the diverse life it supports.
