Artist Statement: The bird portraits are explorations of the vibrant personalities that inhabit the McHenry County skies, fields and yards. I aim to capture the "inner life" of each subject, focusing on the way a bird’s posture or the tilt of its head reveals a distinct character despite seeming to be “ordinary”. In this collection, color is my primary language. Each piece seeks to bridge the gap between the wild and the domestic, inviting the viewer to see our county's birds not as distant creatures, but as individuals with their own stories, moods, and layers of brilliance.
