Artist Statement: Gail Moreland is an award-winning Woodstock artist using the medium of photography. Her approach to photography is pictorial, meaning she accentuates tone, texture, values, color, and composition over the literal depiction of reality. She returns to the same places in rural McHenry County in each season. With such familiarity, she captures the essence, rather than the reality, the mood rather than the place. Her still lifes, inspired by seventeenth century art, celebrate the bounty of our land.
