Artist Statement: Bog’s Eyes reflects freedom in both process and subject. The sky’s constant motion inspired my use of wavy, scattered brushstrokes that capture change and movement as living elements. As a recent BFA graduate, I’m drawn to painting landscapes that feel alive, echoing the show’s theme of land and conservation in McHenry County. I first visited the Volo Bog with my partner, who introduced me to this place from his childhood. That connection made the bog feel personal; its quiet resilience mirrors the emotional depth I seek in my art. My piece, “Bog’s Eyes,” captures the wonder of that first visit. Since then, I’ve returned often, hoping to glimpse the creatures that inhabit it.
