Artist Statement: My photography is inspired by the quiet beauty of the natural world, particularly the familiar landscapes and small details we often overlook. I enjoy black-and-white photography because it emphasizes light, shadow, and texture. Without the distraction of color, attention shifts to the ridges of a leaf, sunlight falling across a field, or reflections dancing on water. Infrared photography offers another perspective, transforming familiar landscapes into something almost dreamlike.
The Quiet Crossing, photographed in infrared, reveals an almost otherworldly beauty in a peaceful woodland setting. This image expresses my appreciation for the beauty found close to home in McHenry County.
I work with traditional film photography, developing and printing my images in my own darkroom. From developing film to carefully adjusting exposure beneath the enlarger, I enjoy the hands-on process. In a world increasingly dominated by digital technology, my darkroom is a sanctuary—a place to slow down, create something tangible, and reconnect with the physical world.
